Project Description

An elongated and compact home for a new family, the BI House sits on a long and narrow site adjacent to a decommissioned laneway. The building, a simply sculpted wood volume on a staggered brick podium, is purposely introvert, operating as a mise en scène that stages the limited views to lake Ontario while composing scenes of the surrounding context.

A central circulation axis divides and shifts the building volumes organizing the rooms. Inside, window locations take advantage of views that are desirable and solid walls block those that are not. A two-story living room occupies the back, where the windows open views to the sky and backyard.
